Diamond Anniversary Spring Concert
Sunday 28th April 2024
Church of the Holy Rude, Stirling @ 7.00 pm

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)

Mass in B minor

conducted by Kevin Duggan

The Rosenethe Singers, under the direction of Kevin Duggan, go from strength to strength, and last night’s performance of Bach, Mass in B minor in the Church of the Holy Rude was particularly impressive.

The opening Kyrie, measured and quiet, was well-balanced even with so few tenors, and set a high standard which the choir maintained throughout, along with good, clear diction; although vowel sounds could always be stronger as they carry the vocal tone forward.

This choir sings with expression and colour and this was particularly evident in the Crucifixus and the joyful Et Resurrexit and they also managed to make light the fast running passages, which they sang with great clarity.

A strong group of soloists – Susan Hamilton, Ulrike Wutscher, Hanna de Bruin, Eden Devaney and Phil Gault, and the Cantilena Festival Ensemble, led by Angus Ramsay, all contributed to this splendid performance.
