We’ve had a really enjoyable term preparing for the concert and once again thoroughly enjoyed working with Frikki Walker, who has decided to stay on as our permanent Musical Director.
Tonight’s programme traces the many ways composers across the centuries have expressed hope, through praise, through contemplation, through love, and through new artistic voices. It culminates in the first performance of a newly composed work by Frikki Walker, one that brings this historical conversation nearer the present, through the words of the American poet, Emily Dickinson, reminding us that hope remains one of humanity’s most enduring sources of inspiration.
It’s been a joy participating in Frikki’s excitement and emotions, hearing what has lived only in his head come to life in the real world.
The programme also includes a Haydn Mass, a Bach Motet, an organ concerto by Handel and music by Gjeilo and Whitacre and we look forward to performing for you tonight.
The choir will be joined by the Rosebery Quartet of Katrina Bateman and Francis Pryce (violins), Sheila McKail (viola) and Aline Gow (cello); David Hamilton (organ); and Catriona Mackenzie (piano).
Our thanks to all local shops, venues and libraries for displaying our posters and flyers, Stirling Printworx, and to Andrew Allan at Scotland’s Night Sky for permission to use his photograph of the aurora borealis at Loch Ewe – it has been a perfect fit the concert’s theme, Beacons of Hope.
