Matthew Beetschen has directed the Rosenethe Singers since 1994. He was born in Kent and educated there and at Bristol University, where he was Organ Scholar. After holding various posts including that of Sub-Organist at Leeds Parish Church, he was appointed Organist and Choirmaster at Dunblane Cathedral in 1992.
A Fellow of the Royal
College of Organists, he has given organ recitals at venues throughout the UK and abroad. In addition to his duties at the Cathedral and with Rosenethe, he is on the music staff at Morrison's Academy, Crieff, and Chairman of RSCM (Royal
School of Church Music) Scotland.
Matthew writes:
"It has been a great pleasure to conduct Rosenethe for the last 12 years or so. They are the foremost Chamber Choir in Central Scotland and have always had a great reputation.
The Choir come from all walks of life - although many have had a professional training in music - and are great fun to work with.
I like to think that we're the ideal size to tackle most repertoire, and we've sung everything from early music to contemporary.
We have a tremendous following and I do like to make our concerts audience-friendly, coupling new music with old : Maxwell Davies and Arvo Pärt with masterworks like Mozart's Requiem.
We also aim in our concerts to create something a bit special which can only be gained from a live music experience. Over the last few years we've sung Venetian music in the glorious acoustic of the Holy Rude Church in Stirling, music inspired by Shakespeare at the Tolbooth Theatre and the Dream of Gerontius in Dunblane Cathedral."
